From a young age, Katie developed a passion for both the written and spoken word, avidly reading whenever she found time. Nowadays, she usually has either a book, pen or laptop in her hands. Over the years she has also penned many poems and verses that come to her in an inspired way, having had success in the publication of some of them.
Katie enjoys yoga and meditation and finds that the inspiration for her writing flows freely after her yoga practice. Katie has a great love of animals and nature, owning and caring for her horse for many years.
She relishes the peace and tranquillity of being outdoors in the fresh air. Gifted with ‘green fingers’ she likes to unwind by working in her garden, creating a beautiful space in which to relax. The peace and solitude never ceases to inspire her in her writing.
Katie has two grown up children who are now busy forging their own path in life, her son currently playing Rugby and living in Australia and her daughter working hard at her career. This leaves Katie to concentrate upon her celebrancy work, which she has come to feel is her true vocation.
She believes that funeral celebrancy is a calling and an awakening that comes to a person when the time is right. For many years, Katie feels that her career path has been leading her in this direction. She worked for over twenty years as a florist, creating arrangements for funerals and weddings, providing flowers for all of life’s big occasions. She frequently consulted with grieving families to ascertain what their individual preferences were and how best to meet their requirements.
Feeling an urge to becoming more people focused she trained in holistic therapies qualifying and practising in Aromatherapy and Reiki in order to satisfy her desire to help people by bringing peace and calm into their lives.
During this time, Katie’s lifetime interest in spirituality blossomed and developed and she was drawn to training as a spiritualist medium, achieving the Certificate of The Spiritualists’ National Union (CSNU) in both demonstrating mediumship and in public speaking. Katie now regularly takes services in spiritualist churches around the West Midlands, in which she demonstrates mediumship and gives philosophical addresses. However, Katie believes that a person’s beliefs are just that – their own and that we are all entitled to believe in whom we wish or indeed to follow no religion at all. Katie respects and reflects this individual freedom of choice within her ceremonies.
Trained by the well renowned Green Fuse funeral company, Katie undertook a comprehensive full training in funeral celebrancy. Gaining a level three qualification endorsed by OCR London. Training consisted of both practical training sessions and assessments at Green Fuse in Devon and the completion of many pieces of written work and assignments.
